No, they're horrible. Awful. Maybe toxic and dangerous to human life. You'd better ship them to me for proper disposal. ;)

I've been using these in preamps for the past twenty years. They're in the 6DJ8 family, but take a 12V filament. Very popular as input tubes in oscilloscopes.

Thanks, meanwhile I got a pair of Siemens CCa.

Guess that is the queen of all

A few newbee's questions:

Why chokes ?
Is it better than a stabilized PSU ?
I could imagine to use some BU208 or IRF460 for these small tubes.

Is the 88 series better than the 81 / 83 / 85 ?

Hi,

Thanks, meanwhile I got a pair of Siemens CCa.

They're the best sounding E88CCs I know of.

Why chokes ?

In the PS they provide for good filtering, isolate the following stages well from the mains and since they are variable resistances AC wise they do tend to keep out mains borne crud pretty well.

Is it better than a stabilized PSU ?

Basically no, combine both and you have a winner.

Is the 88 series better than the 81 / 83 / 85 ?

Depends on what you want to do with them.

Cheers, ;)
