Actually what I do re the rectifier is to use UF1007's and then feed the output of the SS section to a 5AR4 (both plates in parallel) or TV damper tube plate so as to obtain the soft start and tube dynamics. Since the 5AR4 is being run in parallel a single unit can run your stereo unit. Also a tool to consider for taming the output iron is running local feedback from the primary to the phase splitter plates. I'm listening to a McIntosh MC2100 transformer set that is running with power MOS complementary output source followers. Of course the power MOS is being driven by frame grid cathode followers and a pentode voltage amp.
