I have one of these tuners, too, and both channels played very faintly. If I yanked out the 12AX7 audio amp tube, there was no difference. Turned out that the two 0.1uF coupling caps near the tube were open. Replacing those brought it back to life. I'm looking for a service manual, too. Finally figured out how to re-string the dial cord. Nice little puzzle to solve.
I have one of these tuners, too, and there is no stereo separation whatsoever, even after putting new tubes into the MPX section and replacing a film cap in it. I wonder why this tuner's info is so obscure, too. I put a new EM84 indicator tube in it, and the tuner works well except for the stereo problem.
