Is this Tesla ECC803S real or fake?

Hi!

There are a lot of low quality fake "NOS" tubes on the net.

What do you think, is this tube fake or real?

It seems to me rather fake. Can`t see getter ring mounting style.

I contacted to seller and asked some more pictures to identify construction details.
And guess what? Ebay sent me message that "my bid was withdrawn" by someone (I guess by seller). So, probably my questions to the seller are not welcome.

As an aside, I can't help but notice the "true frame grid" ECC803S looks a lot like an ECC88 (of E88CC, if you will).

If it's for epay item 370874178975 then the seller looks a bit suspicious anyway as all bids and feedback are marked private so you can't actually tell what exactly was sold in the past.

Its the same whit the EZ81, Telefunken never made those instead bought them from Philips. well the Telefunken are twice as expensive.

All small frame grid valves have a similar anode shape. The technology requires it.

It can't be assumed that an ECC803S or E83CC is frame-grid or not - depends on the manufacturer.

So if a (double) triode has dented small anodes like the ECC88 it's a frame grid tube? Surely this affects its characteristics in a major way! With the PC88 the frame grid is clearly visible and this is a high transconductance triode.

Not necessarily. A frame-grid valve needs an indented anode, but an indented anode does not necessarily mean a frame grid.

Any valve characteristic can be obtained in various ways, so different constructions don't necessarily mean different characteristics. An ECC83 is still an ECC83 - quite low transconductance.

I just noticed this thread , I have been noticing a lot of very poor fakes around as well as used tubes tarted up in crispy new boxes . I'm 99% sure of the origin and it's a supplier here in the UK who at one time was putting reproduction oval GEC stickers on tubes to increase value , this time round it's the full works which I find particularly disturbing . I won't name them in public but will oblige if sent a PM . Just spotted these on Ebay which I believe come from this source , emailed him and he appears serious and has taken the listing down right away

It's a recent production JJ ECC83 with pins gold plated , rebranded as Tesla ECC803S and supplied in dodgy looking boxes . Wrong plate structure for a start which gives the game away in an instant . This sort of crud is being sold all over the world and unsuspecting buyers are the ones losing out most as well as the unsuspecting sellers stocking these .
