Default Has anyone tried the 6p1p EV?

A search on this forum gives very little info.

Bas, try searching on 6P1P-EV instead.

I built two SE amps with it, "FireFly Single Ended Tetrode" and a PP amp "Sven 6P1P PP".

In addition there is info in the Meng Yue Mini thread.

I just looked up the Sven 6P1P PP Amp thread, and that amp has been running for three years now as the main upstairs amp. I've never gone back and touched anything in it. I should clean up the PS (change from 1N4007 to lower noise diodes) and try LED bias for the input stage.

Hi,

as this tube is a 6AQ5 clone in a different package, any search for this tube (or 6005, or 6V6) will do.

Best regards!

Hallo Kay,

I know. But I was wondering if someone has used it in a hifi amp. And if it really sounded like a 6v6. Guess I'll just get a couple and try for myself.

Kind regards,
Bas

Bas,

I have built both SE and PP amps with it.
While working on the Sven 6P1P PP amp I pushed several to see what they could do.

I've also tried in vain to find a western tube that is the same.

No, I disagree and believe that the 6P1P is not a copy of any western tube. Rather, I believe it was designed from the ground up as a new tube design.

6P1P characteristics look identical to 6V6, but of course the 6P1P is a 9-pin mini, so that is different. 6AQ5 is also identical in characteristics, but is in a 7-pin mini bottle.

At least that is what I have been able to find out from reading spec sheets...

Isn't EL90 the Euro equivalent to 6AQ5?

Here is the specs for comparison. I agree that all three tubes are similar, but believe they were each designed individually and none is taken from the other. Look at the mechanical construction and one can see that the 6V6 plate would not fit either of the other two envelopes. Likewise the 6P1P/-EV would not fit in the 6AQ5 envelope.

Both the 6AQ5 and 6V6 have much higher max Ik as both were designed for vertical deflection service as well as to be used for audio output.

The 6AQ5 is a beam power pentode, the 6V6 is a a beam power pentode, and the 6P1P/-EV are Tetrodes with the characteristic kink in the plate curves.
