Default What is your comment about akido linestage?

Hi!
My friend is building an Akido linestage, anyone here has one built? Would you please share your experience with us?

Many thanks!

CCDA: constant-current-draw amplifier

In listening test section, the designer says that it is not an Aikido. He infers that the Aikido is a lot better a preamp. The CCDA's only real advantage is fewer tubes, therefore cheaper to build.

Just finished breadboarding the Aikido CF using only two tubes. I also built the original Aikido awhile ago. They both pretty much sounds the same to me using the same tubes. The only difference is that the original Aikido has some gain to it. I do not need any gain so will go with the CF version for my final pre-amp. I think its an awesome pre-amp. Very clean and its got some grunt going for it...

Tubenstein:

I expect that the enthusiasm of a complete stranger won't be of much help to your friend, but I can definitely say that the Aikido I built is a remarkably musical preamp. It disappears faster than the Bottlehead Foreplay and several commercial products that preceded it in my tube system, presents a broad and deep soundstage and is lively without sounding, in any way, artificial. My satisfaction with the Aikido isn't ego-driven (though the photo below does make me proud); it's a reflection of my admiration for John Broskie's circuit and the enormous amount of help Bas Horneman provided.

Highly recommended.

Regards,
Scott

As Rockysdad mentioned, the Aikido has 2 different versions of circuit, which one you're building.

I've seen a circuit online, so which version it is. Since it has 4 tubes for stereo, I assume that is the original version you mentioned, right?

Aikido 6SN7 PreAmp
