800ma? I hope that's not at 12v.

If the capacitance of the 6SN7 is an ignorable "issue" then I'll just go with those.

Last question if you don't mind. I'm still a novice so there are many things I'm learning but how do I determine (ballpark) drive requirement of a particular output tube?

No, that's at "6" V. The draw at "12" V. is 400 mA. The ECC99 pins out the same as the 12A_7 bunch and will operate on either "6" or "12" V. heater power.

The kind of "stones" the ECC99 has make sense if 300B DHTs or several multi-grid tubes in parallel are to be the "finals". The Miller capacitance is high, which is a "heavy lift". OTOH, the 6SN7 is more than capable enough to drive single multi-grid power O/P types set up in either ultralinear or full pentode mode. Even triode wired can be OK, with single tubes.

How about 2 pair 6L6 in PP pentode?
