Default capacitor polarity on a VM 20050 amp

This is my first post and I want to thank everyone in advance for the help. I'm on my 5th career fixing up old Audio equipment and I was completely reconditioning an old voice of music record player and found that two 50uf 25v caps were bad. They were old cardboard ones and I didn't see any polarity markings so I order some non polar caps and put them in. Oops once they were out I noticed that there was polarity markings on the underside but I stupidly didn't take any pictures or notice until after both were replaced. It does play but the volume is really low. I now have the right caps but no schematic so I'm not sure which way to put them in. I did put a volt meter on them with the power on and found which side was "positive" and when the probes were reversed the meter read negative volts. I'm sure this exemplifies my ignorance but I sure would appreciate the help.
