Talking The lego-technics transformer winding setup

I needed a pushpull OT for a 2*ECL82 guitaramp quick, I didn't want to spend any money on it and I have a lot of broken junk. So I took a competeley trashed transformer from a TOA PA amp(it came from a church that was hit by lightning, windings were molten together). Did the calculations, grabbed my favourite toys from 10 years ago and started winding by hand. A long afternoon winding with some nice music on the background...

After winding +/- 2600 windings (400 left) I ran out of space. I was quite frustrated and didn't look at it for a week. Then I unwinded it using a drill and I re-winded it with less turns.
After lots of turns
Laminarions won't fit on it, too many turns
Unwind again with drill. Did 2000 turns primary now, now finally I've got a tight fit.
Now I'll look for some tests to see if it meets the expected specifications. I know it won't be hifi, but if it's as bad as I calculated, it would be perfectly OK for a low-power guitar amp

Default It's art!

Who cares? You have a winding machine that Joel would be proud of.

ROTFLMAO.

You've just been awarded the "Best humour of the Year" award.

Geez, Svokke, don't Lego your fingers into the bobbin...

Cheers,

Firstly congratulations on actually a very utilitarian method.

Secondly your experience with fill rates is the best way to learn, I have wound many scrap bobbins this way to find out what if situations, then I make my notes and am armed with most useful empirical discovery's. The very best reference in transformer winding is the notes you write from your own empirical experience.

I don't ever unwind, bobins just cost 30 pence or so, I bin 'em.

save the enironment~!!! He's gonna get the green award...hey maybe you can try binding one of those lego motors on top...then using a rubber band (which they do supply) and a variable speed controller...auto wind ur bobbins...would really be nice...
