i know this is transformer dependent as to where flux is radiated, but for an EI transformer, would there be less flux above the transformer then on the sides?

Perpendicular to the core is considered pretty good, but I have heard even odd angles too. Awhile back, One friend mentioned positioning until one sees the least coupling, then makes a bracket if necessary.
