Hey all
I have been reading some good old books on tube amplifier design and while I was reading I had a thought, turns out this is properlu called active tube crossover. But have anyone here tried to make a active crossover, feed it to three different tube amplifiers, and not just 3 different, but 3 amps designed to work in each their range more linear, than using 3 amps for 40hz-20khz. My thoughts are triode push pull amps, not very high power, I would build a small version of such a setup to experiment with before investing in something like 20-30W. Maybe not active crossover, but passive adjustable with a narrow range. I welcome you to advice me on going down this road or maybe avoid it at all cost

I did something like that several years ago. 3 way active crossover 24 dB / octive. Feeding 20 to 200 hz, 2 Hafler DH200 amps in bridged mono for the woofers, Dyne Audio Polycone 10" in .707 Q enclosres. 200 to 6000hz. 2 McIntosh MC60s driving 50mm Jordan mid range modules. 6000 to ??? hz. Triode mode Dynaco ST70 driving foster ribbon tweeters.
How did it sound..... Like live music. |
