Hi,
So? What's the problem with the 6EM7 SE or PP for that matter.
I don't see any in particular...
And WTF is Fred's Miniblok thingy anyways???
Cheers,
he said SE...so I guess it would be pretty close to Fred's MiniBlok thingy...dirt cheap set I recall...

ok...some of us here might know Fred...he regular posts on the newsgroup rec.audio.tubes.
his miniblok design can be seen here.http://dogstar.dantimax.dk/tubestuf/miniblok.htm

Thanks guys,
Fred's amp is VERY interesting; it is, in fact, a 6EM7 with a 13Vac filament, but still indirectly heated, and certainly highly relevant.
Nicely designed, very well explained by Fred. The analysis of the harmonic structure is very illuminating. Fred makes the point that you can certainly tell it's colored, but that somehow the SET enhances the soundstage and the gutsy transients of orchestras. That's good enough for me..... And it's so simple it could be ultimately built out to drive my Svetlana 811-3s for a little more power! (or a tacked-on push pull SS output stage!)
This looks like a very simple way to get into the SET sound, and Fred's circuit uses commonly available parts at very low cost. It's probably five times cheaper than building a 300B or 211 amp, and for the 1.3 watts it produces, probably enough for a workshop environment OR headphones.
Thanks all, this is a wonderful research forum!
Cheers,
Hugh
