why not a 6LU8 pp amp instead, at a dollar each, U$4 buys you a quad of output power tube, i made 2 amps based on this and i can definitely say that it is worth it...

RCA's actual pentode driver amp was quite an excellent and innovative design.
in later RCA tube databooks, a 50 watter 7027 design using the same topology was presented, almost since the input used a triode pentode type....

That 50-watter is only a 35-watter in RC-19 (1959). 7199 input and PS, 6AU6 drivers, 7027 output. On a closer look the driver is a bit different from the 10-watter.

Yes, that was the design I referred to in post 14, a very clever circuit. I think it used 6CB6 drivers (RC-21).

Another tube I've been reading a little about is the 6AS7GA. Any thoughts on those and which tubes would work well as drivers for them.

Buried on this site is a 6as7 SRPP amp I built long ago. It is a good tube, BIG sound. Needs lost of voltage drive since its mu is so low.

Here's a schem. I had sitting on my HD. The 6V6's are strapped as triodes, but you could change that.

thanks
