fwiw, vintage KT88s were *not* good tubes. (please don't start a flame over that statement).

When H-K did the Citation II they started out with KT-88s. They found them unreliable, and switched 6550s... this was not a few isolated bad tubes...

and GECs were way better than the rubys so I would classify that as good and better in my opinion lol what you been smoking? lol

6550 is not as tight and its more crunchy than kt88 to my ears kt88 has the huge tight bass more focused also less compressed reminds more of a big *** sounding EL34
