Replacing 6922 with 6FQ7 in Conrad Johnson ET3 preamp
I trying to find out if I can replace the 6922 tube inside my CJ ET3 preamp with a 6FQ7. Anyone tried this? I know the 6FQ7 should be more durable but requires more fillament current which should not be a problem since the ET3 power supply is designed to support 3 additional tube filaments for the phono section which I do not have installed.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
6FQ7 and 6922 are quite different valves which happen to share the same pinout. Any circuit properly designed for one would be sub-optimal with the other. If it sounds 'better' with the wrong valve in, then either you like listening to distortion or the original design was poor.
Those are my thoughts.
Thanks DF96. This makes sense.
