That is a nice front end. I am partial to the 6SJ7 as the VA. I think that front end would sound much better than the stock 12AX7 12bh7 of the 8417.

Default QS 8417 --> Sweep Tube? How To?

Hello.
I know this is slightly off topic but as I do not often see QS 8417 questions asked..
Has anyone here mucked about to use sweep tubes in these? It seems a very good candidate for such a mod. Nice simple topology and should sound great, powerful, plus not require geek tweek fiddly stuff?
Second question, what bias current are people setting when they convert to the ¨Super¨ 6BG6GA (7027 innards), 6L6 (6P3C) variants?
I have just installed my last two matched Sylvania 8417´s. All four of my amps are modified to allow bias setting for the other tubes and I do have 4 matched quad sets of the 6BG6GA and the socket adapters..
But I have no idea what bias current to set.
Thank you.

The Super 6BG6GA's can easily run 50mA bias each without a problem. I've run them in my modified 8417 mono blocks. Pull out the 8417's and put them on the shelf for another day.

if you bias your amp,you have to matched the plate current of the two tube of each monoblock by at least 5% without exceeding the maximum allowable plate dissipation.
