Hi Guys,
I have moved to Canada and am rebuilding my amp as the iron was just too heavy to haul in the cabin. Having added a few years poking about with SMPSs at work in the meantime, I am going to SMPS power this - which leads me to the questions below... I have the following choices (to drive Brimar 6V6Gs) Brimar 12SN7GT Used this before, it works. Sounds great from what I remember in 2009. Mullard ECC33 Not tried this before, but they sell for $250-300 on Tubeworld...what is going on?! I know the transconductance is higher, but otherwise it's 'close enough' to an a 12SN7. My primary reasoning for using this would be that I'd only need one heater downconverter... I must have a gander at the curves (The ECC33 is a 'switcher' type tube?) Regards, Liam

The ECC33 is a great sounding tube but way too expensive.
Did you considered the 12SX7GT ? Another 12.6V variant of the 6SN7 which will fit your application, and also an excellent sounding tube. Cheaper and better than most 6SN7/12SN7's. |
