what is a good CCS in the cathode of a 6V6 amp ? Probably trying blumlein/gartner solution with ccs

CCS in cathode of pp amp will limit you to class A with it's lower power output capacity. That said, you should get 8W depending on B+. I consider 8W quite sufficient and don't see it as a problem.
The Why a current source? Are you driving only one grid? If so, the CCS will limit the drive as it will have a minimum voltage across it before it goes out of regulation. 30mA per tube? I don't think a discrete current source will have a lower dropout than an LM317 as a current source. The LM317 has reasonable noise numbers, so I'd go with it. |

I agree that a LM317 regulator is adequate in this roll. I have used them extensively and they worked fine. Zener protect and consider HV versions if going DC coupled. Others have reported improvements with cascade mosfet CCS but I doubt the benefit is worth it.
