HI,

Does anyone know where I can get an AZ1 tube base in the UK????

You're a very brave man, wanting to use a side contact valve - only Philips and Mullard made them, and they were rarely used after WWII - Octal based valves had more reliable bases and were less noisy. I'd be inclined to change the base and replace the AZ1 with a 4 volt Octal rectifier, possibly an AZ31, but if you want to use an AZ1 I think you will have to try a vintage radio site.

You could try Past Times Radio (http://www.pasttimesradio.co.uk/) located in the north of England, they have a 'junk' section with parts removed from old radio sets - drop them an e-mail and ask if they have a base. Otherwise post a message on the Vintage Radio and Repair Discussion Forum (http://www.vintage-radio.com/cgi-bin...aBB.pl#general) in their 'Parts Wanted' thread. Otherwise you might have to wait for the next National Vintage and Communications Fair at the NEC.

Which is tomorrow but I can't make it this time since I'm going to VSAC next weekend I couldn't obtain a day pass out of Scarborough for tomorrow.

Well, the NVCF is probably a bit expensive if you are only looking for a valve base - £15 (approx $25) admission and £6 (approx $10) for parking, plus the cost of getting there and the prices of stuff aren't cheap either. I've haven't been for a long time.

I believe that there is a vintage radio rally at Cowbit in Lincolnshire in November, and the prices there would be cheaper. Alternatively Raja could try posting a wanted ad on the Vintage Radio Emporium (http://www.vintageradio.info/).

Try Ask Jan First . Jan has most obsolete European bases available - some from new manufacturing. His service is excellent and Jan is a very friendly guy.
