hi -
i have 2 telefunken tubes where the writing is all but gone. one was in a box hand labeled ecc85, but many tubes from this batch were in improperly labeled boxes, so i don't feel comfortable relying on that. pins 4+5 and 4+9 have continuity. the plates are smooth and have the same length, but appear slightly different as far as the side holes are concerned. (see details on image links below) i have uploaded a set of pictures of each to photobucket here: telefunken nr 1 pictures by langlieger - Photobucket and here: telefunken nr 2 pictures by langlieger - Photobucket if i can be sure they are safe to try as an ecc83/12ax7 type that would help. i just feel to unsafe to stick them in an amp and try, since i don't know the expected heater voltages. any tips would be greatly appreciated - chris |

Definately not an ECC85
can be ECC82 or 83. ECC81 look different. Just plug it in. You can't really damage anything when you put a 82 in where a 83 should be. It just distorts and gain is much lower.
