I have read several horror stories by tube equipment manufactures about the silver bearing contact grease. Their comments mentioned leaching that caused arcing and the need to replace all the sockets treated. I saw photos posted by Balanced Audio Tech showing close ups of the damage.

As I understand it, the idea was to fill in minute irregularties in the sufaces of the tube pins and sockets, thus providing better contact-an excellent idea especially where very high power xmitter finals are concerned. Apparently it does not work. Perhaps some broadcast and ham types may know more. Regards
