Default Rectifier oddness

On my KT88 SE that I built I was using a new EH5U4 rectifier and I noticed that my very over-kill power transformer was getting very warm. I replaced the EH5U4 with an old RCA 5U4 and the PT no longer ran hot. I also used a russian 5U3C and it ran cool. It also sounded fantastic with the russian tube. Any ideas why the EH5U4 would cause to heating problem where the same tubes of different makers did not?

Voltage, current measurements? "Sounded fantastic" doesn't give me numbers like the power dissipation of your transformer.

I guess,

Check heater current difference and voltage drop across the tube / B+ voltage level and see if there is a difference between tubes..
