Default Looking for data sheet for GE JAN 6146W/7212

Looking for data sheet for GE JAN 6146W/7212....

My concern is Plate Dissiaption...
The RCA 6146W shows 20W Continous and 25W ICAS
The RCA 6146-B shows 27W Continous and 35W ICAS

I keep hearing and reading that this GE JAN 6146W made in the 1980's is built to the 6146B spec but ruggedized.... SOme tube re-sellers are saying this is direct repalcement for 6146B....

I need to see proof such as a DATA sheet that actually shows that this General ELectric 6146W has plate dissipation similair to the 6146-B ....

The application is AUDIO amp..so RF parasitic and nuetralization issues do not come into play here..
The idle voltages are approx: 660V on the plate and 220V screen biased at 24mA ......this is approx 16W plate dissipation at idle...
This is roughly 80% of Max plate dissipation for a typical 6146W and 58% of Max plate dissipationif it were a 6146-B.....
So my concern goes back to the plate dissipation spec...of course the 6146W will probably work but it may not last as long....
Durring operation with signal the average plate dissipation will go up a bit depending on plate load swing....so not leaving much headroom....
So this is why I am curious to see what the GE JAN spec 6146W has listed for plate dissipation..???

Thanks...
Chris

The 6146B's were different than the 6146A's and W's. Having been a ham, there were a lot of rigs that you could not put 6146B's in if they originally had the 6146A. They will make a fine audio amplifier in AB1 or AB2. You'll need to watch your screen voltage.

New production 6146b tubes are being made in China for about $24 a piece.

Acrosound made a big PP UL +100W amp with 6146a tubes, but the output transformers had fancy tertiary windings, so that they could feed the screens with 220V and feed the plates with 725V.

What about PP 6146Bs in triode mode?

The plate dissipation of the tube is 35W. The screens should be safe at 400V if the plate dissipation is not exceeded. Might get 25W in PP triode mode. There was an old manual which did state that it could be run in triode at 400V, but I cannot find it. I do not suggest that you do so, until the manual is found or someone who has done so can verify that it is safe.

I read somewhere that a W can be either A or B spec. To further complicate things, B was originally said to be equivalent to A even when it clearly was not.

To make things even more confusing, there was even a 12-V version with a "dark heater" rated for mobile service (the four-digit number eludes me just now). I've got a whole box of 'em somewhere...

WOW...
No bites on the data sheet...
Well I guess I will have to figure this one out the old fashion way.....
I will have to use the thermal imaging camera at work and look at both the 6146W and 6146B and measure them at various plate dissiaptions probably I can do some very high plate dissiaptions by pulsing and then viewing the thermal decay...I can then take the images into software and plot the thermal gradients.... That all depends if I get any free time at work...
