Default Speaker suggestions for ST-70

I just picked up a reworked ST-70 (to which I will be making additional mods but) and I need some nice speakers. My listening area is part of a combined living/kitchen area about 14' by 40' by 8' (4.3m by 12.2m by 2.4m for the world outside the US). The stereo system would centered along the long wall roughly 12' (3.7m) from one of the short walls. The walls and ceiling are sheet rock with a wood over concrete floor. The living area furniture is fairly large and should provide some acoustic damping.

Price range would be $1,500 $US, give or take a bit. I might switch back and forth with solid state, such as with something like a Leach Amp.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jeff

New or used speakers?

If it were me it would be used. Say a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls or Heresys.

Altec, EV, and JBL should not be over looked either.

You don't want something with major dips in the impedance curve. That rules Thiels out. In current production, Paradigm offers some OK values. The Studio 60 and Studio 100 are floor standers. The Studio 20 is bookshelf.

BTW, finish with the amp, before you buy new speakers. Then, you can take it to the dealer's showroom and get some sort of feel for how any particular combo works.

There's a small risk in ordering the DECWARE MG944 speakers, but I can tell you from personal experience that Steve Deckert is a straight shooter. You would have power to spare and them some, given the 94 dB. sensitivity. Bass extension is certainly not an issue.
