Came across this schematic a few days ago, and i was wondering if anyone here has more experience with similar desing, using other triodes (more power?).

I am curious ...
What is the purpose of the EF80 in the middle ?
Stabilize the DC operating point ... ? How ?

I did some recalibration on the resistor networks to accomodate a pair of PL504.
And some other modifications like NFB and xfrmr hookup.
Seems to work well.

The adjustment of the standing current is very sensitive though - may easily run away.

I made one just for fun. Here is the thread
EL86 Single Ended PP Power Amplifier

I will not recommend making SRPP power amplifier though.

The EF80 is there to feed the upper PL36 with reversed signal, 180 degree out of phase from the lower PL36 .

of course ! ... didn't catch this because I was thinking in terms of SRPP which is self-inverting.

this circuit claims 18W and it does so ... however

at Pout over 10W the upper tube seems to fight the lower tube,
so at 15W the upper tube shows plate dissipation of 30 W average
and 80W peak. A lot even for a sweep tube.
this doesn't happen at lower output ...
usual SRPP style circuits don't do that, actually dissipation drops when overdriven.

expect red glowing plates during sine wave testing.
music program may be just O.K. though
