Hi.
This little amp just turned up. It has 4 x 6AQ5 in the output, BUT these are B9A pinned valves, and 6AQ5's are 7pin valves, so what is going on? Anyone ran into one of these? Henry |

Probably 6P1, which are electrically similar to 6AQ5 or 6V6. There are Russian and Chinese versions - but no US or European equivalents with same pin-out.

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply, it does also say 6P1 on the chassis. Is this a 9 pin version of 6AQ5?
But why do they also write 6AQ5 when clearly it won't fit? Are the 6P1's easy to get or will I modify this thing to run something like 6BW6? |

Just type 6p1p-ev into ebay search and pick your vendor ...

Hi Dovla, many thanks , there's loads of them there.
Feel sorry for anybody looking for a 'real' 6BQ5 who orders these only to find they're 9 pin and not 7 as expected! |

Thanks, I have since ordered some Russian 6P1P-ev thanks to Dovla's suggestion.
If I were to rework for different valves I would probably go for the 6BW6's as they are electrically closer to 6AQ5 whilst having similar dissipation to EL84's. (12 Watts) |
