Peerless 16309 output 10K primary with Ul taps
Peerless 6048 PT 880V ct with 60v tap, 5v, 6.3V (from PP 807 amp) I have a pretty good assortment of potted chokes to use also. I was thinking along the lines of a 6CG7/ kt66 williamson (obviously) but that seems so boring. |

Don't know much about peerless trannys but I do know they are good.
Are the output trannys push pull? Is this your first build? Having some specs on them will help us give you some sugestions. Cheers Matt. |

Thanks guys,
Matt, the outputs are pulls from a 25 watt Williamson amp. They are push pull 10K with UL taps to 16, 8 & 4 This will not be my first build, I have built a few amps and pre amps from scratch. Tinitus, I would be worried about the high voltage required for the GM 70. I have built a few amps but 880V + full wave rectifier is probably out of my league. Marty |

I took an ambulance ride after getting nailed from hand-to-hand (across the chest) with 1087 volts (what the meter said before I took a ride). I imagine the only reason i am alive is because I wasn't connected to the supply long enough. I remember the horrible agony of the shock, then getting thrown back by my own muscle contractions. Then I remember getting up, taking a few steps, and then looking back to see if my body was still on the floor... I wasn't feeling too good, so I called 9-1-1 and took a ride to the hospital. They kept me under observation overnight and released me the next morning. I got VERY lucky, and I never forgot that lesson. I still work with such HV supplies, but I am rigorously careful at all times. I fully realize that I got a second chance, and may never get a third.
BTW, I'm not relaying that experience to try to scare people away from HV and tube amps. Quite the opposite - have the proper respect and use the proper precautions and you will be perfectly safe. HV is no different from driving, handling firearms, climbing a mountain, having casual sex, etc. As long as you are safe, careful, and responsible you won't get hurt BTW, FWIW I would build either another 807 (or 6L6) amp, or maybe a class A EL-34 PP jobbie. But that's just me. Last edited by Defiant; 24th October 2011 at 11:41 AM. |
