Default Rogues?

I have been invoiced $500usd to change the primary voltage on a pair of Rogue M180s. My understanding it involves picking up a different primary tap. How many hours of tech labour would $500 buy in the US from a manufacturer?

I really hate reading stuff like this because it seems that you are being royally screwed by some unscrupulous money grubbing shyster. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest their nether area.

I would say an Absolute Maximum of a Half-Hour's work....

Say, seeing its a dealer, call it £50....Tops!

The ONLY way it could be higher is if they have to Change the entire Mains Transformer, so the cost of the replacement would add to the price, plus maybe a little longer to change it...

Yes you did. You should raise hell about it.

A plumber will come over to your house and snake out a drain for $100. And he'll make a good profit doing it. No way it should cost you more than that. Unless there is something odd about the unit that we don't know.

Seems like a couple of hours of labor total to change the taps on a pair of amplifiers would be reasonable, (minimum billed time, etc.) so this works out to $250/hr which definitely is not reasonable given the nature of the work involved.

Rogue Audio is located on 3 Marion Lane in Brodheadsville, PA. So you might start by contacting the local BBB and reporting your experience to them. It is conceivable that they have violated some PA consumer protection law if proper disclosure requirements weren't met. (Being overseas complicates any potential remedy I would guess)

You can also open a dispute with your credit card company, but do not do this until you have the amplifiers in your possession or they might be held hostage until the matter is resolved.

Your best recourse going forward might just be to share the unembroidered truth about the shabby customer service you received from this company with anyone who might listen.. You might just cost them a sale or two.

Hell,I'da done it for a pint of beer, and some conversation with a fellow member.

If it's as simple as switching primary taps it shouldn't take long, and it's not very complicated.
Basically just un-soldering a couple wires, moving them, and re-soldering them. Maybe add some heatshrink, and other incidentals.

No way is it a $500 job.

caveat emptor. Ask for a price first. Too late after the fact.

This is audiophile territory after all - the birthplace of $9,995 5m speaker cables..
