For my home theater, I have Def. Tech Mythos driven with an Onkyo TX-SR875. I have a mission to find a new 5 channel amp to improve SQ. My system is 50/50 for music/movies.
Seeing the prices of decent 5 channel amps that are at least 100x5 500-1500, I'm thinking maybe I can DIY a nice tube amp. I demoed a McIntosh tube driving a pair of B&W 803 at a local shop and I just love the way they sound. I know they're $15k speakers but I'm sure the tube amp had a lot to do with it. Do you think my Def Tech Mythos One would benefit from tube? Any pointers on how to get started w/o breaking the bank. What kind of budget should I plan for? |
