I am afraid I am going to have a hard time finding replacement pots for the volume/balance control... it seems to be a pretty specialized piece (two pots in one), and it's not in good shape. Is it possible to have these refurbished?
If the controls are scratchy and erratic it doesn't necessarily mean that they are bad. First try cleaning them with an electronic spray cleaner or a drop of alcohol. Noisy controls can also be caused by DC voltage on them do to a leaky capacitor feeding it from the preceding stage. It only takes a small amount of DC to make it sound scratchy. Generally they cannot be rebuilt unless you have a collection of similar units to interchange parts and are willing to go through the trouble.

I have a similar question! I own a 1960 Zenith console. The radio works fine--phenomenal sound. However the Cobramatic turntable does not work. I suspect the problem is in selector switch because amps don't fire up on "Phono" setting either; only radio. No broken wires that I can see. Don't have original manual so I don't know if turntable "on" switch also fires up amps when selector is in "Phono" setting. So problem may be there. I've attached pix...any thoughts?

BTW I have experience with these, a 1958 Grundig Majestic (everything works) and a 1959 Motorola console (everything works) as well as a 1965 Claretone (everything works). Never had this prob before.
