PSU for JE Labs Simple 45/2A3
Hello all,
First off thank you to all members of this forum that have contributed. This forum has been an invaluable resource in my DIY journey over the years.
I have recently completed my implementation of the JE labs FF preamp schematic, my first attempt on valves. I am currently using it as a pre for a bi-amp set up using tripath chip modules. I am now looking to try my hand at building a JE labs Simple 45/2a3. I am looking to build this amp with an external PSU for ease of future evaluations i.e. A unit with all carbon comp. res. and one with all modern carbon film to make comparisons etc.
Question, would I be able to use the PSU of the preamp to try to power the Simple 45? (Obviously I would need a separate 2.5v transformer for the heaters of the 2a3) It is a choke input with a 274b rectifier. The transformer is a Hammond 372fx (150va) with a 600v CT @ 173ma. First choke is 20h then 12h, both 100ma. I've measured the b+ voltage without the circuit load of the pre and it is at 436vdc. It seems also that the PSU is much more than enough for the requirement of the pre. Would it be out of the question to try to power both pre and power from the same PSU? Sorry if the answer is obvious but I'm completely new to valves. Thanks guys.
