5Z4PJ 6N2J

Hi,

Does anyone have experience/thoughts on the 5Z4PJ tube rectifier?
Is it a reliable tube like the 5AR4,5R4? Any datasheets?

I recently bought a chinese EL34SE amp that uses this tube and
the 6N2 for the drivers.

I only saw one datasheet for teh 5Z4PJ and it said 4uF. The power
supply circuit is actually usinga 22uF so I'm not sure if that is good.

If I swapped out the 6N2 for 12ax7, would I get better sound quality?

I never saw 5Z4 with PJ sufix. I suppose it's not big difference with 5Z4 ...

You probably have Russian 6N2P as a driver which is similar to 12AX7 except for filaments ...

You will get better sound with some quality NOS like Telefunken or Siemens 12AX7

the 'P' I think is for the Chinese version. Just curious if is a realiable tube
like the 5AR4. The curve coke bottle shape is very cool though, not available
on the 5AR4.

I'm pretty sure I will swap out the 6N2 for the 12ax7's.

The 5Z4P-J and 6N2-J Chinese tubes are clone of those Russian 5Ц4С & 6Н2П.
The letters "Z/Ц" and "N/H" respectively stand for kenotron and double diode tubes in Chinese/Russian system, while "P/C" stands for Octal tubes and "no subfix/П" stands for Noval tubes. The subfix "J" in Chinese tubes stands for use in military equipment, as I remember.
The 5Z4P/5Ц4С should be similar to 5Y3, and 6N2/6Н2П should be similar to 12AX7/ECC83, although with 6N2/6Н2П the heater pinout is different.
The Chinese/Russian datasheet for 5Z4P/5Ц4С only shows some graphs with filter capacitor of 4 or 8uF, however we can use up to 50uF like other popular kenotrons.

good to know you can use up to 50uF for 5z4. My stock unit is
using 22uF.

I have the GDAP-01 EL34 amp from goodcomponents and in process
of re-wiring the heaters to replace 6N2 for 12ax7.

Just found out 1 mistake in my earlier post, the 6N2/6Н2П should be double triode like 12AX&, instead of diode.
