I've always thought that two rather obvious tweaks to the old stodgy dynaco/McIntosh chassis designs, would result in 10X greater visual excitement. What real estate agents call "curb appeal".
1. Instead of a rectangular box, with vertical sides, make the base an ellipse. With vertical sides if need be (20 design points), or with sloped/curved sides if possible (25 design points).

2. Mount the tubes ten degrees off-vertical, so they resemble the cylinders in a V8 or V12 motor engine (15 design points).
Even if you painted it black, even if you used a standard chicken-wire screen around the tubes, it'd still be miles ahead of the competitors, design wise.

Just don't paint it white, now you're an Apple / Bang&Olafsen wannabe.
