Seems terribly complicated.....

Is there any advantage over a more simpler design?

The circuit is a simple two device cascode. There are two of them on the board plus optional bias regulators for constant voltage "gyrator" operation. Reading through the thread will clarify the purpose of the various options.

This application of this board for a 76 tube depends on what you want to accomplish. Let's say you want to use the 76 as a single stage line amplifier with a gain of about 14x.

The 76 has a relatively high plate resistance, and one wants low output impedance from a line amp, so I would use the circuit as an anode load with the mu output.

For a single stage amp using a low gm triode, either CCS or gyrator would be appropriate. One might try both to see if there is a difference in sound or stability.
