I want to bias my firefly amp.
I switched passive cathode ressistor with pot. I need to get 8.8V (cuz it is 8.0) So what should I need to do before biasing? Short input? Volume pots to max or to min? Speaker should be connected or not? What else to do before biasing? Thanks |

Always run a valve amp with a speaker or other load connected.
If the circuit says 8.8V and you have 8.0V then you are close enough already. Whenever using a pot for bias you must always ask yourself "what will happen when the pot slider lifts off the track?" In this case, using it as a cathode bias resistor (presumably bypassed by a capacitor), the answer may be "the cap will go bang". I would leave the fixed resistor in place. |
