Hi, im new in tubes.
Have just assebled a 2x16 watt AMP. Id like to use my stax headphones (electrec type) that are driven with speaker output.

Is that load ok for tube AMP? Or how do i calculate???

Thanks and sorry for the simpel question!!!

Best regards

Hi.
SR-40 are electret (electrostatic) headphones. In the black box that comes with the headphones (srd-7) there are two transformer, to provide the high voltage-low current needed to energize the hp, and it's an easy load for the amp.
If you need to go one (big) step beyond (apart from purchasing another Stax...) try this The Tube CAD Journal, Electrostatic Headphones

Even with the small SR-40 the sound is amazing! (and loud!)

The transformers in the SRD-7 interface will provide the proper 8 ohm load for your amplifier. Hook it up and enjoy.

Or, at some point down the road, wind or find some appropriate transformers to replace the 8Ohm versions in your amp, and drive the headphones directly from the amp.

The transformers in your amp step down the voltage, and the transformers in the adaptor box, step it back up. Just to illustrate, let's say the step down ratio for the amp outputs is 10:1, and the step up ratio of the adaptor is 1:10, then, a single 1:1 transformer will replace both.

Question Stax SRD-7 adapter

Hi there,
Please if you could help with this:
As you say it's an easy load, please do you happen to know or estimate its input impedance?
Am in the same shoes trying to connect Stax Lambda via his adapter to a tube amp.

Many thanks

Sandor

Are you using an srd-7 adapter with the amp for the stax? If so you will be fine - its an easy load for the amp.
