Default looking for hi volt commercial power supplies

hi I h;ave decided to look into these

hi voltage, say 600 volts commercial lab/bench power supplies

does anyone have any or any knowlege of them?

.

I have a gelman 500v at 100ma and an eico 1030.

1/ I am simply after info on what brands to seek out

please help...

2/ also I saw one once that had something like 700volts unregulated and around 550 perhaps regulated does that sound familiar to anyone ...ie what make/model it was, again help please? thanks

Knight Kit KG-664 0-400V 0-200mA 6.3V/12.6V 0-? neg. Bias V

Heathkit IP-32 IP-17 SP-17A 0-400V 0-100mA 6.3V/12.6V 0-150V neg. Bias V

EICO 1030 0-400V 0-150 mA 6.3V/12.6V 0-150V neg. Bias V

Fluke 407D 0-550V 0-300mA 6.3v/6.3V 32 lbs. (3x807 tubes or 2x6l6GC for 100 ma version)

Kepco BHK 500-0.4M (tube) or MG (SS) 0-500V 0-400mA

Kepco 615B 0-600V 0-300mA 0-150V neg. bias V 6.3V/10 Amp 60 lbs. (3x6550 tubes)

Sorensen DCR600-0.75B or -1.5B 0-600V 0-750 mA or 1.5 Amp (60 Hz triac switcher) very heavy, noisy

Sorensen DCS600-1.7E 0-600V 0-1.7 Amp (HF switcher)

Lambda EMS 600-1.6 0-600V 0-1.6 Amp (HF switcher) 12 lbs

HP 6448B 0-600V 0-1.5 Amp (60 Hz triac switcher) very heavy, noisy

Xantrex XHR 600-1.7 0-600V 0-1.7 Amp (HF switcher, digital readouts, current limiting, remote RS-232 PC programming option) 11 lbs

Xantrex XT 250-0.25 0-250V 0-250 mA (linear, fast current limiting, digital readouts, remote RS-232 PC programming option)

The switcher supplies have current limiting but are very slow responding, especially 60 Hz ones (no good for screen supplies).
I think the Kepco units have fast linear current limiting (which is needed for a screen supply), but not certain about that, you will have to check.

Here's a few more for the list. All are linear tube types, but hard to find do to age.

Lambda 50, 0-500V 0-500mA plus -150V bias and filament w/meters

Lambda 70, 0-500V 0-200mA plus -150V bias and filament w/meters

Kepco 605, 0-600V 0-500mA plus -150V bias and filament w/meters (6336 pass tubes)

Kepco 500R, 0-600V 0-300mA w/meters

Electronic Measurments 222A "Regatron" 0-1000V 0-500mA with bias and meters (6550 pass tubes)

Power Designs 323M, 0-500V 0-300mA w/meters (6L6 pass tubes)

Power Designs 351, 0-500V 0-200mA w/meters (6L6 pass tubes)

Oregon 5-4V, 0-500V 0-400mA 0-150V bias w/meters

Lambda C281, C481 & C881, 200-350V at 200, 400 & 800mA w/meters (5881 pass tubes)

I have one and use it a lot. The meter goes up to 300 mA with the red line at 200 mA. It has seen operation beyond the end of the meter quite often without ill effects. The bias supply goes to -150 volts. There are dozens of versions of the same design made over a 30 year period. All use the same or similar schematic, differing in the number of pass tubes. The Knight uses 4 X 6L6GC to deliver 200 mA. I also have a similar supply frpm PACO that uses 2 X 6L6GC to deliver 100 mA.

I have one of these too. I got it off Ebay for $25 and $45 shipping, in "untested" condition. I didn't test it either I just plugged it in and used it. Been using it for about 5 years. It has all the original caps and tubes in it and will go unstable when running a class AB amp that draws peaks over 1/2 amp.

Kepco BHK 500-0.4M (tube)
I have a BHK 500-0.4M which is 0 to 500 volts, 0 to 400 ma. I also have a BHK 1000 - 0.2M (0 to 1000 volts, 0 to 200 mA) and a BHK 2000 - 0.1M (2000 volts 100 ma) The design is solid state except for the pass tubes. The current limiter is fast enough to save most components and probably a screen grid, but I don't use them too often.

Yes, very heavy, noisy fan, and the curent limiter is too slow to save anything. It can dump a killowatt of energy into a circuit for almost a second before the limiter kicks in. Trust me a shorted electrolytic will not vent, it will explode! It will however run a stereo tube amp at 250 WPC without blinking. It goes to 650 volts at 1.7 amps. It will operate at those levels until the 15 amp bench breaker trips.

For most designs I use the Fluke and Knight supplies. When I need extra supplies I use the PACO or one of the Kepko's. For the big powered amps the HP is the only choice.
