It wouldn't be such a pain if the finish was good, but Hammond, Allied (Hammond seconds{?}) and even cottage industry Transendar suck.
I just spent a frustrating 1/2 hour removing the end bells from an Allied Hammond clone; the screw heads were 1/2 between Phillips and square because of the &*%$# assembler, I suppose. Why do it? The factory paint was coming off in strips after a year and I had just re-painted the amp chassis. Same, only worse for the Transendars. Sheesh! Didn't waste the time on those, just masked the lams and the chassis real well. Did find some dynamite rattle can paint at Lowes- Rustoleum Textured Metallic Galaxy and Valspar Textured Metalic Silver. The former looks like a Planetarium with points of light in not quite blackness and the latter makes the chassis look as tho' it's covered in diamond dust. Really! Thanks fer the Rant, pass the Bud.... |

AFAIK, Hammond makes the stuff Allied sells under their own label.
