Hi...
I am planning on building a stand alone push pull guitar power amp from an old (unrecuperable) hifi system. My questions: - should i bother using a voltage amp stage before the PI? - or should i go with a buffer instead? - or nothing at all? Just the MV (i do want one) This power amp will serve one main purpose: to help me out with some preamp experiments. So i want it to be able to respond reasonably well for a whole lot of preamps (from clean to extreme high gain). Anyone has any designs i could take a look at? Thanks |

It sounds like you are wanting to build a guitar amp from the phase splitter on to be sued as a testbed for various front ends which would include the preamp, tonestack and main gain stages.
Have you decided which Phase splitter you are going to use (LTP or Concertina)? Are you doing a PPIMV? Or another MV? What is the hifi you are working with? |

Yes , you are right...About the PI, i am still deciding. the original one (from the hifi) seem to use a concertina (with one half of a 6CG7) but i am a little more inclined on the LTP using the same tube (6CG7). Mainly because from what ive seen, it seems to used more often in gutiar amps. But i am still doing some research on both...
They will feed a pair of 6V6GT so... The old hifi was a RCA Victor 6HF3... For the MV, i probably should clarify a little. I wan to add a volume pot. Ive seen some designs that use a 1Meg pot on the input signal. Since i am not too familiar with MV circuits, i assumed this was the standard....I want the ability to control the volume, but to the expense of circuitry simplicity.... Thanks again |
