Mic preamp

Hey,
I'm looking for a microphone tube preamp design. Here is my situation:

I got a metric halo interface with 2 ULTRA clean preamps. They work beautifully for almost everything, but sometimes I just want that tube sound for vocals and DI bass etc. Does anyone know of a design for a mic preamp that kicks *** and has a lot of character?

I've never implemented an instrument DI AND a mic in... I guess I'd also like a lesson/information on how to do that properly as well.

I've built tube guitar amps before, but those require a lot of distortion in the preamp, which is not necessarily the case here. I would like this thing to be able to have some harmonic distortion, but not straight up "crunch".

I have built quite a few mic amps but have always done my best to minimise distortion. Maybe what you are looking for could be achieved with a variable mu triode-as far as I remember,ECC89 is such a valve.

I don't think you will get much distortion from this imaginative circuit!
