I always read that the output transfomer for SE is different than for PP. What exactly is the difference? I know one is center tapped on the primary, and of course the pri/sec ratio is different, but besides that is there any other difference? What if i use a PP transformer connected as SE and adjust the load line for the different impedance ratio? would that work well?
Thanks |

nope.
In simple terms, SE has a gap to prevent/reduce saturation due to the idle current. P-P trans have idle current flowing in opposite directions which therefore cancels the magnetising effect so no saturation due to idle current, so no need for a gap. For low power/current applications, you may be able to get away with using a P-P trans but it would not be ideal. Last edited by quikie22; 27th April 2011 at 05:10 PM. |
