I've been working on an scratch build of an optical compressor which is essentially a United Audio/Teletronix LA-2A with a few minor tweaks, including DC heaters, and a ratio control to replace the limit/compress switch (yes, I know it will probably be pretty subtle).
Anyway, this project has been so much fun, I thought I'd set up a little blog to document the build, which is currently about two-thirds done. Once it's complete I'll post full documentation. For those of you with an interest in tube studio outboard gear, check out the blog here. |

Thanks Andrew! The cool "Black Iris" logo is from the music collective/studio that commissioned the build. I've got some nice 1.25" brushed aluminum knobs that should look really cool with it. I'm trying for something a little different than the UA aesthetic, which looks a bit like something from a Navy ship... which I guess is cool in its own way.
I may get a chance to finish this this coming weekend, in which case I'll post some more pics and a wrap-up, along with complete final build documents (other than the draughts that are there now for the layout, which have known problems). Cheers, Paul |
