I think the more experienced ones
are looking at the colors of the glow
when the tube starts to warm up and when it is warm.

They know how to see if there is anything that is
going to give up life soon.
I think tubes has not as long lifespan as transistors.
If one use slightly less power to heat the tube
it will live longer,
maybe at expense of some little prestanda.

Three solutions , first one obvious : find someone with a tube tester ! Second : avoid the issue and buy a complete set of new tubes (not recommended) . Third : measure the voltages between cathodes and 0V . You may need a schemetic for this with the correct voltages marked , also other components drifting with age (anode loads / cathode bias) may affect this . Go for option 1 !
