Hi guys, I just posted a short review on the the Sovtek 5751 and the RCA Command Series 5751 as used in my Maple Tree Audio Ear+ headphone amp as the driver tube.
Comments and thoughts appreciated! |

Dude, that was not short! How many words was that? I need photos and diagrams. Dont much understand that many words in a row. Good review tho, nice to see someone taking a serious approach for once and doesnt just enjoy the music without demanding some minimal performance. Have u tried listening to a tube dipped in vinegar? Really gets the tone out. Perhaps thats what the cheap Sovtek needs.

The Ear design schematic is easily available on-line. It is direct couple grounded cathode driver stage followed by a cathode follower output that is transformer coupled to the headphone.
You serious about vinegar? Not sure how that can affect performance of a tube? |

Almost $100 for a 5751? That is really astonishing! Where have I been? I have a dozen RCA 5751 NIB tubes I found in a junk shop in Encinitas, CA years ago for $1 each. I was going to use them in a conrad johnson preamp but never needed them.

I think you can get some non "Command Series", but still RCA Blackplates for $60 or so from another tube dealer. Not sure if they are different. I might try some 12AT7 in this as well to compare.

It is quite difficult to discuss about anyones personal listening results, since these are fully subjective. Somebody else can have opposite feelings and you both are equally right.
Instead, it would be easy to discuss about test data, which is objective. |
