YEP!
For amps like the Mullard 5-20, the Radfords, Quad IIs, Williamson, Leak, etc. I see so much s**t on Ebay, I'm thinking...stay away from Chinese?, Russian? are they OK? What about the good old USA types, East European, NOS (thats crap - should be UOS unused old stock). One of my favourites from the 60s is the CV4004 (if its genuine). I had a little SE once with EL84,ECC83, EZ80 and swapping the 83 for the 4004 really improved the sound. I'm building a pair of 5-20s and I want them to sound the best but I don't have much cash. Cheap but not nasty to start with, then improving by changing the valves. No point in buying stuff that is no better than I will have fitted already. If you see what I mean. I'm aiming for 20 -30 watts per channel. If I succeed, I can sell them to pay for the next project, maybe a pair of Radfords. |

Now, please let me disagree with both of you. The original question was, who makes best tubes listed by the topic starter. Very few manufacturers of tubes remain alive, so if I understood well, the question was, where to source listed tubes. Did I understand you right, payitforwardeddie?
