Hi Jim,
What is the relationship of www.cedist.com to the PM Component Group? I'm assuming (perhaps mistakenly) that they are a stocking distributor that purchases their SED/Winged C tubes from PM.. Or?

The situation has been made rather complicated by the whole Svetlana (NS) versus SED thing.. Regrettable in the extreme.

SED lists the 6550C as a currently available type, not discontinued. Perhaps they just haven't scheduled a run for a long time?

Yeah,
I had some of these, they had both measurable linearity problems and had a tendency to red plate and run away under some conditions. The C is a much better tube in all respects.

Take a look at the "Events" section of their site. Hasn't been updated since 2004.

Kevin, I don't know. I never really thought to ask, so I'm no help here at all.

It appears that the tubes sourced from PM Components are in the "SED" logo boxes. The "SED" tubes from CE are always in white boxes. That could just mean they buy in bulk, but I just don't know. sorry!

True - but there's been nothing new since then! Well, other than price increases...

I have ran the Sovtek KT88 at 580v B+ and 45ma bias for two years without a problem. They sounded very good. Recently I replaced the Sovtek's with Gold Lion KT88 and the lowest bias setting I can achieve is 53ma. I am worried that this may cause tube failure as the resulting plate disipation is 31 watts.
Any thoughts?
