Smile HALOJOY - tube amp new bie - NEEDS HELP

thanks to any anyone that hasn't forgotten me

you can call me
halojoy . halo . gro . groman . gromanswe
you can call me anything
no matter what you say
you still might consider me

(Bob Dylan, trevesty of "Gotta Serve Somebody")
- - - - - - -
you may be the heavy weight champion of the world
you might be associated with a long string of pearls

you may drink whiskey, you might drink milk
you may wear cotton, you may wear silk
you - still gotta SERVE SOMEBODY
well,
it might be the devil or it might be the lord, but
you still gotta serve somebody
- - - - -

And my opinion is
I have to serve some body, too
this body called "halojoy" - in the first place

- who else would bother to serve mebody?

as I am in the Tube-territory now

I don't agree always with Halo on technical matters but his wit and respect for other's opinions can give new insight in matters. Never a dull discussion when Halo is around !

And with all respect for Frank,

Do not take it personally, fdegroove.
It is just that I wish this thread of mine
to have posts with some substance

some reading - some thoughts for my project

December 2002 - halojoy starts a thread in "Tubes"!

Halojoy Tube Amplifier Project - New!

Some of the tubes, triodes, I consider to experiment with
in Line pre amps and Headphones amps (Voltage Gain 4-10),
Consisting of 1 or 2 Single Ended stages and Cathode Follower output:

6H30pi-EB(6H30P) 6N1P-SV EF86 7025 6SN7 PCC88(7DJ8) 6922 6AS7G

Several are Svetlana or Sovtek tube versions.

I do not consider any other tubes! No exotic mumbo jumbo.
Why?

Because some of the tubes above are GOOD ENOUGH
and are what I can get a safe supply of, over time,
and to a reasonably good price at my Swedish TubeShop.

Any Help, Advice, Schematics and Pictures are Welcome!

I'd love to find an affordable, steady supply of 6H30s, for now i use 6N1Ps and 6922 (and some 6N23P).

Cool What is a good tube line amp?

What is a good tube line amp configuration?

Restrictions:
Neither in- or output transformator.
Only using tube/s that are commonly available,
not necessary low-priced. I only need a couple.
No feedback.
(If I wanted feedback I might as well use
an OP-amp with several 1000s of gain.
OP-amps have a considerabe gain
even at closed loop gain = 1, as buffer.)

I might consider a solid BJT output buffer.
An Emitter follower in class A. With separate Power Supply.
With 1 tube, maybe a paralleled triode, single end
as input. Voltage gain as I said before 4-10.

A low or moderate gain tube with low noise.
would n't that be what I should look for?

I put up a newly found Tubesite as "Link Of The Day".
It is a nice little Spanish site
with lots of schematics and some great info
about Russian Valves 6N1P 6N2P and how to use them tubes best.

Halojoy,

I am extremely surprised that you need any help with this!
You have shown yourself to be more than capable with SS designs in the past.
Why don't you show us what you have in mind, in schematic form, and you can decide whether to accept any suggestions?

Things to consider:
Required gain
Output impedance

Cheers,

Halo...

It sounds like you want an OTL... have you seen Bruce Rosenblitz's Audio Reality. If i was going to tackle an OTL (that was larger than a couple watts) the little OTL in this book would be one of the 1st i would consider.
