I love days like these ... arrive at the office to find a box on "junque" left on my desk ...
a selection of bizarre rectifier tubes, buckets of pclxx TV valves , two caesium photcells 20CG (haven't got any of those) some magic eyes (some types I haven't got) and a complete Ecko U319 in reasonable condition. ... it's a pity , it always happens when someone's father/grandfather passes on .... I expect I'll find out who's by the end of the day ... |

I always find that being given such a present brings two emotions. Firstly, there is the thrill of discovery; really nice experience of browsing through the box, looking up parts you haven't seen before yet and trying to find out what the unlabeled parts might be. But secondly, there is also the sense of pressure or perhaps even guilt that results from the knowledge that I cannot realistically use all of these beautiful, shiny or grimey things in projects. One day, hopefully a long way down the road, I will probably be someome's grandfather (more likely just the weird old uncle, come to think of it), passing on boxes of 'junque' (I like that one, thanks!) to a next generation, and along with it the same two emotions.
I guess it's up to us to make sure that there will be such a next generation... |

My friends dad gave me a couple big boxes of stuff after a family friend passed.Loads of parts, and some test equipment, all kinds of goodies. Later on,my friends dad passed also. I still think of those guys when I use that equipment.
I'm sure they'd be glad to know it's being put to good use. |
