I've read that some people substitute the 6922 for the 6N1P. I've read in other places that this is not a direct substitute. What is the truth?

It can be used in the same circuits, may not be optimal. Draws 2x as much heater current (600mA), so may draw too much for the power supply (i've had to replace 6N1P with 6922 because of just such an issue).

The 6Н1П (6n1p) is NOT a direct substitute for the 6922. Transconductance is lower and plate resistance is higher. Also, the 6Н1П draws 2X the heater current.

I've wondered why they designed it with such a high heater current... My guess is because it provides a more physically robust filament, able to endure more vibration(?)
