hey, anyone built a hybrid with high voltage SS output
or are there any experiences with any kind of high voltage SS output would it make sense to use a flea power amp as driver maybe either OTL output, or maybe even a 2A3 http://www.st.com/internet/com/TECHN...CD00000774.pdf http://www.st.com/internet/com/TECHN...CD00070417.pdf |

While their not hybrids, I've built amps that are high voltage SS. The amps are solid state renditions of the 47 P-P and Tabor class A balanced amplifiers with local feedback on the output stage.
On my webpage- Tube versions - 47 P-P, Tabor, Tabor Rev. 3 Solid State versions - SS Tabor

High voltage and high current (if not using an OT) means super high power dissipation...

Here's another example of a SS high voltage output circuit with an OPT and local outstage feedback.
Most linear triode-strapped pentode I started with a hybrid of MOSFET input and a 6L6 output tube, then for grins substituted a HV IGBT in place of the tube. I think it may sound a little better with the SS device but it's a difficult call. For a hybrid, the depletion mode MOSFET at the input could be replaced with a pentode., which will certainly have the possibility of changing the low order harmonic content. Cheers, Michael |

I just bolted on a high power solid state MOSFET amp onto the output of my SRPP front end.
Sounds very good.

Hi Gary
Very impressed with your SS Tabor amplifier. I have built a few transformer coupled amplifiers Amity, Karna, KK and variants (all DHT outputs). I have noticed the input tube has a big impact on the overall sonic of the amplifier and I just haven’t found an input tube I like. What are your thoughts if I used SS input TT coupled to 45 drivers and 300B outputs? This would do away with a tube input. regards Frank |
